Alfred Mutua is the current Machakos County Governor who's serving his second and finale term as a Governor as required by the Constitution of Kenya.
Mutua is also the party Leader Maendeleo Chap Chap Party which had earlier declared support for Azimio La Umoja Alliance associated with Jubilee's President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM Leader as well as Azimio la Umoja Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga.
In past few days, Governor Afred Mutua, Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, Governor Charity Ngilu among other Eastern Leaders had expressed their dissatisfaction with the way they were being handled in Azimio La Umoja citing frustration and non-inclusivity in the alliance decision making as well as Campaign activities.
Reacting to the above, ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga in the company of Royal Media Services Chairman and founder Dr. SK Macharia among other Key Azimio La Umoja Leader convened a meeting with the said Eastern Leaders with an aim of cooling down what was seen as a brewing Storm within the Alliance.
This however, seems didn't work well with Governor Alfred Mutua who after meeting with Azimio La Umoja leadership decided to comvene another meeting with his party official with an aim of coming up with a decision on which faction to support between Kenya Kwanza Alliance and Azimio La Umoja Alliance.
Before the meeting, there were rumours that the Governor could be gearing up to join Kenya Kwanza Alliance associated with Deputy President William Ruto and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi.
But this however didn't go as was expected after Governor Alfred Mutua
announced that he would continue offering his support for Azimio La Umoja and it's Presidential Candidate ODM Leader Raila Odinga.
Thefore the status quo remains as it were for Alfred Mutua and his party Maendeleo Chap Chap as the Country prepares for the August 9, 2022 general Elections.
